There is a plan to bring back BattleBots, the TV show with dueling robots controlled by human beings. But really, a robot by definition is supposed to be independent of outside control! A few years back, BattleBots were all the rage. Well, it’s time for a new breed of robot battle competition, and what would really spice things up would be - Artificial Intelligence. Today we have an international ’soccer robot‘ competition, which is nice, I guess, but we NEED real autonomous robot carnage!

We have the technology, so what’s holding us back? There’s plenty of interest in the tech community, and there’s even an autonomous vehicle race. So why not put that data crunching power into “Crunch-a-saurus” or “KillerKomputer”. Now the teams would have no excuse, because they ALL would be responsible for creating the programming to destroy their opponents.

People have wanted to see two combatants enter an arena for ages and ages. Now you don’t have to worry about blood being spilled, you just have to make sure your motherboard doesn’t get jarred loose. Strategy would be key: there’s plenty of offense and defense that would all have to be accounted for. People would eat this up and it would really make the competition that much more interesting, not that people don’t like robot parts flying everywhere already!
