By this time next year, the digital revolution will be in full swing. The United States government has decreed that ALL full power broadcast television MUST be in digital format and no longer analog. What does this mean? Televisions that are not digital will either need to have a converter box to recieve the signal, or as some may decide, to get a new TV altogether.
The official start date is slated for February 17, 2009, so there have been Public Service Announcements months in advance. In addition, manufacturers have been required (since March of this year) to have a digital tuner installed in televisions they make. Remember, the only the signal is changing to digital, so only HDTV’s will be in high definition.

Digital signals will offer many upgrades to the analog system we have now, such as data streaming and freeing up some broadcast spectrum bandwidth for other purposes, such as fire and safety services. So get ready for the big day and before you know it, analog television will be gone, a thing of the past, like “Smoking Sections” on airplanes!
